Cinderella
The Wonersh Players performed Cinderella, their long-established “late, late” pantomime, during this February Half-Term Holiday.
This was the Wonersh Players’ 25th Anniversary Pantomime and to celebrate, Ian Weale, who wrote their very first script, updated his original version for the 21st Century. The Director Sam Honey brought out the usual blend of old jokes, memorable songs and strong characters that will give children and adults a show to remember.
The traditional tale of Cinderella (Veronica Holden) dreaming of a better life while Prince Charming (Nina Cornwell) looks for a wife. With a little help from the love-struck Buttons (Charles Cornwell) and the Fairy Godmother (Vicky Hussey), love will find a way. When the clock strikes twelve, can the Queen (Nicky Bracey) find Cinders with only the help of Dandini (Sam Honey) and the Lord Chancellor (Den Fisher)? The selfish ugly sisters Trinny (Simon Osborne) and Susanna (Steve Cozens) do all they can to spoil Cinderella’s dreams while spending the savings of their father the Baron (Leigh Terry) on dresses at the boutique run by Lizzie (Jeanette Farley), much to the annoyance of Betsy the Cook (Katy Cozens). Meanwhile, the robbing pirate band of Captain Morgan (Glyn Tassell), Mister Mate (Donna Jones) and Jolly Roger (Dave Workman) also get their comeuppance in the end.
The Wonersh Players’ usual blend of old jokes, memorable songs, strong characters and wonderful costumes by Marian Cozens gave children and adults a show to remember.
