Pantomime 2010 - Hansel and Gretel
The Wonersh Players performed Hansel and Gretel, their long-established “late, late” pantomime, during the February Half-Term Holiday this year.
The traditional tale was given a new twist by writer/director Glyn Tassell with the arrival of the pompous Sir Montague Stratford (Jon Rogers), immediately upsetting his new neighbours Vince (Leigh Terry), Jack (Jacquie Fabb) & Digby (Glyn Tassell) and challenging them to a talent contest, much to the embarrassment of the loyal Mrs Mayoress (Jeanette Farley). Meanwhile, the young orphans Hansel (Dave Workman) and Gretel (Karen Kirkland) are left in the forest by their greedy step-aunts Cynthia (Katy Cozens) & Cecelia (Vicky Hussey) but are captured by an evil Witch (Nicky Bracey). The glamorous Juliet (Simon Osborne) and feisty Ophelia (Liz Rossall) lead the search for the lost children but will they be found before they end up in the Witch’s cook pot? And why are the two strangers Dudley (Donna Jones) & Bob (Tracey Griffin) hanging around the forest? Will there be a happy ending? You’ll have to see the show to find out.
The Wonersh Players’ usual blend of old jokes, memorable songs, strong characters and wonderful costumes by Marian Cozens gave children and adults a show to remember.
Performances were at the Wonersh Memorial Hall in February on Thursday 18th, Friday 19th and Saturday 20th at 19:30, with a Children’s Matinee on Saturday 20th at 15:00.
Tickets cost £4.00 for adults and £3.00 for children and seniors and profits of the show will go to the Surrey Air Ambulance
