Mother Goose

The Wonersh Players performed Mother Goose, their long-established “late, late” pantomime, during February Half-Term Holiday in 2006.

The traditional tale of good battling against evil takes place on Goose’s Farm and was given a new twist by writer Glyn Tassell with the addition of the Sheriff (Leigh Terry) and his Deputy (Steve Cozens) who need to find out who’s causing the bad atmosphere in the village. Meanwhile, the Goose’s farm is failing to make money, no thanks to the scheming Tom (Charles Cornwell) & Bill (Simon Osborne) and the Goose’s two fun loving daughters Julie (Vicky Hussey) & Jenny (Nina Cornwell), much to the annoyance of their father Bruce (Will Smith). But when the Goose’s son Alec (Sam Honey) returns from college, plans are made to turn the farm into a tourist attraction, which dismays his girlfriend Ellen (Yvette Osborne) and his mother, the gorgeous Dame “Mother” Goose (Den Fisher). Little do they all know that the Demon of the Dark (Griff Bracey) has cast a nasty spell over them after tricking the ever helpful Postie (Donna Jones). The village’s only saviour is the Fairy of the Light (Nicki Bracey). Will the magic Goose (Dave Workman) lay a golden egg and save the day? Only the Baron (Glyn Tassell) can tell.

The Wonersh Players’ usual blend of old jokes, memorable songs, strong characters and wonderful costumes by Marian Cozens will give children and adults a show to remember.

Performances were at the Wonersh Memorial Hall were in February on Wednesday 15th, Thursday 16th, Friday 17th and Saturday 18th at 19:30, with a Children’s Matinee on Saturday 18th at 15:00. Tickets cost £4.00 for adults and £3.00 for children and seniors with profits of the show going to the CHASE Children’s Hospice
