Sinbad and the Riddle

The Wonersh Players performed Sinbad and the Riddle, their long-established “late, late” pantomime, during the February Half-Term Holiday this year.

The traditional tale was given a new twist by writer/director Glyn Tassell with the pompous Sultan (Den Fisher) sending Sinbad (Nina Cornwell) on a quest to prove he is worthy of the Princess (Veronica Holden). With help from the long suffering Tariq (Katy Cozens), the Princess’s flirty nanny (Simon Osborne) and a couple of surly sailors (Mark Cozens & Dave Workman), Sinbad sets of on a journey to magical lands. He hopes the Sultan and his snooty wife (Sarah DeLittle) won’t be tuned against him by the scheming Ameera (Sam Honey), or that his arch enemy Mustapha (Steve Cozens) won't steal the Princess away from him. The Princess’s only hope are her two servants (Nicky Bracey & Vicky Hussey) but will Sinbad solve the riddle in before it’s too late? And why are the two mysterious gentlemen treasure hunters (Leigh Terry and Glyn Tassell) assisted by the loyal Dogsworth (Karen Kirkland) so eager to help? Will there be a happy ending? You had to see the show to find out.

The Wonersh Players’ usual blend of old jokes, memorable songs, strong characters and wonderful costumes by Marian Cozens gave children and adults a show to remember.

Performances were at the Wonersh Memorial Hall were in February on Wednesday 20th, Thursday 21st, Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd at 19:30, with a Children’s Matinee on Saturday 23rd at 15:00.

Tickets cost £4.00 for adults and £3.00 for children and seniors and profits of the show will go to the CHASE Children’s Hospice and the Fountain Centre
